The First Annual Astoria Craft Party Inspires Creativity

The first annual Astoria Craft Party was held Friday August 24th in the Fort George Lovell Building.  A steady stream of party participants hammered, glued, painted and assembled, crafting new treasures from salvaged housing materials, recovered pallets, and myriad other raw materials recycled and ready for reuse.

Astoria inspired repurposed stenciled pallet art, from Maison de Stencils, was a huge hit among party goers.

The many youngsters and young-at-heartsters constructed one-of-a-kind repurposed cabinet door chalkboards, stamped personalized silverware, and stenciled handbags and pallet pieces. They also adorned picture frames with "broken glass", assembled fabric dolls, and learned methods for dying fabric accessories. Vintage maps, old magazines, and decorative paper goods were recycled into envelopes, tags and pinback buttons. Party-goers ventured into the parking lot between the Lovell Room and Brewpub to help a local blacksmith forge iron wall hooks and participate in woodburning, around the block to blow glass ornaments at Fernhill Glass, and toured the surrounding city on a photo walk.

Vintage Hardware taught attendees how to use salvaged goods to create beautiful items for the home like these repurposed cabinet door chalkboards.
